1 BLOK, A. A. Dnevnik Al. Bloka: 1911—1913 [The diary of A. Blok: 1911—1913]. Edited by P. N. Medvedev. Leningrad: Izdatel’stvo pisatelei v Leningrade, 54, 94—96, 99, 200.

In Russian. Entries dated 22 December 1911, 17 April 1912, 4 May 1912, and 20 April 1913 include references to Ivanov. The most substantial section on Ivanov attacks his ideas on symbolism and the first issue of Trudy i dni. For much fuller, annotated, and indexed editions of Blok’s diaries, see 1963.4 and 1989.8.

2 BLOK, A. A. Dnevnik Al. Bloka: 1917—1921 [The diary of A. Blok: 1917—1921]. Edited by P. N. Medvedev. Leningrad: Izdatel’stvo pisatelei v Leningrade, passim.

In Russian. Only a few references to Ivanov can be traced in this volume of Blok’s diaries. For fuller, annotated, and indexed editions of Blok’s diaries, see 1963.4 and 1989.8.

3 GROSSMAN, LEONID. “Prilozhenie: Mastera soneta” [Appendix: Masters of the sonnet]. In Sobranie sochinenii v piati tomakh [Collected works in five volumes]. Vol. 4: Mastera slova [Masters of the word]. Moscow: Sovremennye problemy, 329—47.

Reprint of 1925.5.

4 IVANOV, GEORGII. Peterburgskie zimy [Petersburg winters]. Paris: Knizhnoe delo “La Source” (“Rodnik”), 65—67, 124—29.

In Russian. The main sections related to Ivanov describe a Wednesday gathering at the tower at which Akhmatova read a poem, welcomed by Ivanov as an “event in Russian poetry,” and Kuzmin’s rooms and literary life in Ivanov’s flat. Kuzmin’s best writing was done under the patronage of Ivanov, who had a unique gift for directing the talent of others. Reprinted with the addition of two further chapters: 1952.5.

5 KOZ’MIN, B. P., ed. “Ivanov, Viacheslav Ivanovich.” In Pisateli sovremennoi epokhi: Biobibliograficheskii slovar’ russkikh pisatelei XX veka [Writers of the contemporary period: A bio-bibliographical dictionary of Russian writers of the twentieth century]. Vol. 1. Moscow: Gosudarstvennaia akademiia khudozhestvennykh nauk, 138—40. Reprints. Cambridge: Oriental Research Partners, 1971. Moscow: DEM, 1992.

6 TOMASHEVSKII, B. Teoriia literatury: Poetika [Theory of literature: Poetics]. Moscow and Leningrad: Gosudarstvennoe izdatel’stvo, 23, 112, 207. Reprint. New York and London: Johnson Reprint Corporation, 1967.

In Russian. Quotes from Ivanov’s verse as an example of the use of Slavonicisms to create an archaic style. Cites “Sfinksy nad Nevoi” [Sphinxes over the Neva] as an example of the sonnet. Includes Ivanov’s essay “O noveishikh teoreticheskikh iskaniiakh v oblasti khudozhestvennogo slova” [On the latest theoretical research in the field of the artistic word] (1922) in the selected bibliography.

7 VLADISLAVLEV, I. V. Literatura velikogo desiatiletiia: 1917—1927 [Literature of the great decade: 1917—1927]. Vol. 1. Moscow and Leningrad: Gosudarstvennoe izdatel’stvo, p. 119. Reprint. Leipzig: Zentralantiquariat der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik, 1974.

In Russian. Extends the author’s earlier bibliographical appendix on literature of the revolutionary period (1918—1923) by a further four years (see 1924.3). Includes the erroneous statement that Ivanov was Deputy Narkompros in Baku (see Mikhailovskii, 1930.10; D. Ivanov, 1962.4).

8 ZHIRMUNSKII, V. “Preodolevshie simvolizm” [The successors of symbolism]. In Voprosy teorii literatury: Stat’i 1916—1926 [Questions of literary theory: Essays 1916—1926]. Gosudarstvennyi Institut Istorii Iskusstv. Leningrad: Academia, 278—321.
